The Ideal Sanding Block

For sanding flat surfaces, this is what the ideal sanding block looks like:

  • it’s made from a flat piece of hard work (like maple or mahogany)
  • dimensions are 2.5 x 4.5″
  • 3/4″ thick
  • has a thin 1/2″ deep groove running the length (I used a table saw to cut the groove)

The dimensions of this sanding block are ideal for two reasons:

  1. it’s a good size for holding and sanding for most people’s hand size
  2. a sheet of sanding paper comes in 9 x 11″. When cut into 4 equal pieces will wrap perfectly with this sanding block
