For sanding flat surfaces, this is what the ideal sanding block looks like:
- it’s made from a flat piece of hard work (like maple or mahogany)
- dimensions are 2.5 x 4.5″
- 3/4″ thick
- has a thin 1/2″ deep groove running the length (I used a table saw to cut the groove)

The dimensions of this sanding block are ideal for two reasons:
- it’s a good size for holding and sanding for most people’s hand size
- a sheet of sanding paper comes in 9 x 11″. When cut into 4 equal pieces will wrap perfectly with this sanding block

A perfect wrap
